The comments regarding the FPS of the SOCOM Gear Barrett raised my curiosity and decided to take a closer look at the relationship between BB weight and Velocity…

barrel length plays another role in the amount of power behind the shot a shorter barrel means the compressed air behind the round escapes faster once it reaches the end of the barrel where it exerts less energy as it disperses in the open air. The longer barrel allows for that air to stay directed behind the BB for a longer period of time accelerating it for a longer period of time. However if the barrel length is too long the barrel will hinder the round. all theory of course

love that gun its awesome!!

joules=power exerted to do work on an object

the other gun most likely has a better motor, but not as tight a barrel
that must be it

April 7th, 2010 at 9:12 am

April 7th, 2010 at 9:47 am

@xx117711xx
ya i know. my local walmart got some 0.20 gram bb’s in so i’m always gonna use those. i need to purchase some 0.36 gram bb’s to use a sniping weapon though.
April 7th, 2010 at 11:23 am
@ChithonianEmperor7 it is 6mm, just lighter or heavier in weight. never use .12 grams, always use .20s and higher

Stay away from CA products in general if you care about internals.
The CA M24 was actually my first airsoft rifle.
It was a colossal piece of crap.
For under $250, I’d normally say a JG Bar10 (the most popular and IMO most practical sniper rifle here in HK). But there’s been a severe shortage of Chinese guns lately. So you might need to buy a Marui VSR 10, in which case you would need to upgrade the entire piston assembly including the spring. DONT touch the hopup or barrel, no need.

ha that funny, sense u seem to know what your talking about, i was wondering if you can help me, i am trying to find a sniper to get, i have looked at many, my price range is under 250, the classic army m24 looks pretty good, i want a gun that i can get upgrades for but htat is also great stock and has good range

@GingerMeProductions exactly. its because the longer the force exerted on the bb is the more “work” is done with respect to kinetic energy. W=FD force may be the same but the distance (length of barrel) is different. (my inner physics nerd screamed when he said weight! its mass!!!!!!!!)
April 7th, 2010 at 1:37 pm
The reason the that the FPS is different for the M4 ris and barrett is because of the barrel length. The longer the barrel the more velocity. Thats also why accuracy is better with longer barrels. longer barrels increase velocity!

I’ve seen people that have modded the original gas blowback Barretts and they’re performing with some of the top stuff…like outshooting some Airsoft Surgeons and Ares Interventions…
April 7th, 2010 at 2:18 pm
it is always 6mm unless you purchase special 8mm bbs that are rarely ever used except in marushin airsoft guns.
April 7th, 2010 at 2:35 pm
so if a bb ways anywhere from 12g – 43g, does that change the size or is it always
6mm??

Mine shoots pretty accurate. Wherever the crosshairs are placed that’s where it will go. (Unless their is wind)

dude its just fucking bad ass
