Airsoft Guns – Moving Into The Big League

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

If you’ve been using basic spring airsoft guns for a while and been bitten by the bug, you’re probably keen to get started on some of the more sophisticated options in the arsenal. These include advanced spring models, and electric and gas guns in pistol, rifle and automatic weapon formats.

Spring airsoft guns are the most basic but you can get some sophisticated models. Other than a range of handguns, you can get a wide array of spring airsoft rifles such as the Smith & Wesson M3000. However, if you’re looking for a gun with automatic function, you’ll need to find another type, either electric of gas.

Electric airsoft guns are the most popular type nowadays and offer some great advantages over springers. The most important is that they’re automatic. Also known as AEG (Automatic Electric Gun), these guns are worked by an electric motor powered by a rechargeable battery. Some modes have high capacity magazines with a capacity of 100s of pellets which make them perfect for an environment where continuous shooting may be required such as an airsoft game. Say goodbye to cocking your weapon before each shot.;with an electric gun you can fire as fast as your fingers can pull the trigger.

You can get different types of AEGs ranging from pistols to rapid fire machine guns and assault rifles. If you’re on a budget you could look at LPEGs (low powered/priced electric guns). Of course, these cheap airsoft guns are not as good as AEGs. For one thing, the gearboxes are made out of plastic instead of metal.

Gas airsoft guns offer automatic fire, too, or they can be semi-automatic. A number of gases are used including propane, nitrogen and carbon dioxide. One advantage of gas guns is that they’re lighter and more compact than the electric item. However, their performance is influenced by the temperature; owing to the cooling effect of the gas, they work better in warm climates.

So much for the mechanisms, now let’s look at the types of gun available. The most basic types are handguns which include pistols and revolvers.

Rifles are available in a range of styles. Sniper rifles are popular owing to their exposure in the media, especially in movies such as Shooter. Most are bolt action though semi-automatic models are available. When it comes to rifles, the length of the gun is an important factor in the accuracy of the firearm.

Carbines are basically shortened versions of an existing rifle, assault or otherwise. They’re light and portable and perfect for indoor use. Examples of carbines are the M4 and XM177, Socom16, and the AK74SU.

Assault Rifles can fire automatically, either in Burst or Full-auto, or both. Examples are the M16 family and Kalashnikovs.

Shotguns are available in both spring and gas form. Most fire a single BB at a time though there are exceptions. An example is the Smith & Wesson M3000 spring airsoft shotgun.

Submachine Guns (SMGs) are good for indoor environments where maneuverability is more important than firepower and range. SMGs come with both full and semi-auto types.

One of the great things about airsofts is that you can get replicas of famous firearms, both modern and historical. You can choose from a single shot pistol that’s a full blown exact replica of a modern military firearm, a shotgun with real pump action, a perfect replica of a hunting rifle, or a six shooter from the Wild West of old.

The Origin and Kinds of Guns

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Guns has been part of human nature ever since the day it was invented. Guns are somewhat regarded as a symbol for defense and power at the same time. There are several types and classifications of guns.

Guns are weapons that forces projectiles like bullets. Projectiles are usually fired within a hollow tube of the gun called the “barrel”. The distance between one side to the other side of the barrel is measured in millimeters or inches. It determines the bullet size of a specific gun.

These devices nowadays are mostly rifled unlike the older versions of muskets. Modern guns have a sequence of grooves in a spiral position on the barrel. There are some exceptions though which includes the smoothbores on AFVs, tanks, shotguns and various types of artillery.

The term “cannon” is somewhat the same as with the term “gun” for they are borrowed from the 15th century French language. In terms of military language or usage, it is often referred as artillery, an ordinance that forces projectiles at a high velocity rate. This type of artillery includes naval guns. Mortars as well as other hand-held firearms are not accepted in the military for they do not need the training and precise gunnery data when engaging the targets. There are also two exceptions to this, namely the shotgun and the machine gun.

A shotgun is a hand-held firearm. Also a smoothbore, it can fire a single load of projectile or shot called slug. On the other hand, a machine gun is an automatic weapon mounted on a wheeled carriage or a tripod. These are usually operated by two persons. It can also be any other tool resembling the same shape with a trigger, like a drill gun.

A Gun-Type Fission Weapon is referred as a component of a nuclear weapon. A fissile material is the projectile of this weapon captured inside a device. The device within the nuclear artillery must never be confused by the literal gun fired by the police or a cop.

Kinds of Guns

First is the military firearm. This includes long guns such as the Arquebus, two Musket types called the Muketoon and Wall Gun, and Blunderbuss. In this category, it also includes personal defense weapons such as rifles that include the bolt-action rifle, lever action rifle, battle rifle, assault rifle, carbine, sniper rifle, and service rifle. Shotguns are also included especially the semi-automatic shotgun and the combat shotgun. Furthermore, the Tu Huo Quiang and the sub machine gun are included in this category.

And then there are also the civilian and military Handguns. The primary one in this category is the handgun. The captive bolt pistol, machine pistol, and hand cannon are all types of handguns. Pistols such as the Howdah pistol, mouse gun, junk gun, and pocket pistol are included.

There are also machine guns. These are heavier, bulkier, more powerful and complicated to handle. It takes some skills to use it properly and handle it well. There are also artillery guns, like the Carronade and Howitzer.
Tank guns are also popular. The .50 BMG is the most common type and used by many people.

Another type is auto cannon guns. Examples of this type include the .50 BMG, chain gun and auto cannon.

And then there are also those for entertainment and training. This type includes the BB gun, water gun, paintball gun, pellet gun and the airsoft gun.

Last but not the least is the hunting guns. These are used to capture wild animals in the forest. It could be as a hobby or to eliminate danger in a certain area.

Do you have what it takes to be an Airsoft Sniper?

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

Many airsoft players consider snipers to have one of the most sought after roles on the field. In an airsoft skirmish, the sniper plays an important role both in eliminating opponents and communicating important information to the team. If you are considering putting your skills to the test as an airsoft sniper, here are a few things to know:

Stealth is critical to success as a sniper. One of the airsoft sniper’s main goals is to remain undetected and unharmed throughout a skirmish. A sniper must be able to remain very still for long periods of time waiting for the right moment to strike. At times, the sniper may need to move from location to location. Maneuvering through fields or wooded areas undetected requires the ability to crawl quietly across any terrain to avoid enemy fire. The ability to stay low to the ground and out of sight while changing locations is a skill that may take some practice.

Additional gear may be needed for optimal performance as a sniper. In addition to quality airsoft sniper rifles, many airsoft snipers purchase upgrades and gear specific to the sniper role on the field. Quality scopes, bipods and ghillie suits are common pieces of equipment used by airsoft snipers. A sidearm such as a pistol is also helpful for situations in which the sniper is spotted or ambushed by enemy fire and needs an automatic weapon for protection.

Airsoft snipers need a lot of patience. Often an airsoft sniper will lie still waiting for long periods of time without taking a shot. Snipers are not usually in the middle of the action, so that is something to consider in deciding if being a sniper is right for you.

Practice, practice, practice. The skills required to succeed as a sniper will take some practice. For one, a sniper should be comfortable and experienced with his or her rifle and understand its capabilities and limitations. Firing from too far away could cause you to miss the target and reveal your location, while firing from a distance too close can lead to injury. Accuracy at long distances is pivotal to a sniper’s success. The ability to crawl quietly while staying low to the ground is another skill that may take some practice to perfect. Airsoft snipers must also learn to think ahead, keeping multiple escape routes in mind at any given time to avoid being trapped by opponents.

Taking accurate shots, maneuvering stealthily and establishing good communication skills with your teammates are critical in a skirmish, but can be practiced off the field as well. Honing your skills both on and off the field will help prepare you for success as an airsoft sniper.
