The airsoft guns came into being in 1980 in Japan. Airsoft guns are the latest toy gun replicas. The airsoft games have been a rage with people worldwide. The reason being the guns are modeled exactly as the real guns are. Even their weight and reloading process is the same. These guns propel the 6mm non-metallic pellets at velocity ranging anywhere between 30-260 m/s by the means of spring-driven piston or compressed gas. It is fun, electrifying and passionate.
The guns are readily available in the market and thus, it is a challenging task to find an airsoft gun of your needs. You must choose a gun which suit your needs and budget well. You must keep the following things in consideration when you are to buy the airsoft gun:
Cost Maintenance Functionality FPS RPM Capability
There are three mechanisms of airsoft guns namely:
Electric powdered gun: they use a battery power to boost the shooting mechanism of the gun. They are quite popular with people and are quite expensive. The biggest advantage is that the spare batteries are quite smaller in comparison to the gas canisters. Gas powdered gun: the gas canisters are either attached to the gun by the hose or physically. The pressurized gas propels the airsoft gun BB’s. In case you plan to buy the airsoft can with small gas pistols, it is advisable to buy many gas canisters in one go. This will help you evade constant trips to the gas provider and help you save lot of time and energy. Spring loaded gun: they are least popular as they are neither automatic nor semi-automatic. After every firing the spring needs to be re-cocked and this obviously hampers the rapid succession of the airsoft gun BB’s.
Ask yourself what do you want to do with the gun? Hit the can, if yes then an inexpensive spring pistol will solve your purpose. And in case you want to participate in airsoft games then, an electric or gas rifle is a must! The cost and power of the airsoft guns are positively related. The higher the cost, the higher is the power of the gun.
Most people take the decision keeping the price factor in consideration rather than the purpose. The guns which have high round per minute (RPM) consume Airsoft Guns BB’s very fast. Thus, there is a constant need to refill them. Thus, you must never go in for expensive rifles in case you want to shoot the cans.
The airsoft gun BB’s should not be considered only a toy gun as many a times some serious injuries have been reported. Thus, it is important to know about the safety measures and the equipments relating to the airsoft games. Wearing an eye-protection is a must! Always cover your unexposed skin like hands, head and neck. Remember, precaution is better than cure, so equip yourself well before you get down to taste the real fun.

While airsoft gear tends to be durable, I have come across a few prematurely broken electric airsoft sniper rifles in my time. More often than not, these rifles were victim to user misuse and abuse. I strongly believe that you should enjoy your airsoft gear to the fullest, but it’s also important to take care of your investment so that it will last for the long-haul. Here are a few tips to help you do just that:
Only use quality BBs. If you take only one concept away from this list, let it be this: avoid cheap BBs at all cost! Low grade airsoft BBs are found in sporting goods stores and Wal-Mart. They are sometimes labeled as “Seamless Airsoft 0.20g” or “Seamless Airsoft 0.12g” BBs but don’t let the name fool you, these are sub-par BBs and need to be avoided. These cheap BBs break apart too easily, which leads to jams, stripped pistons, and chipped gears. Furthermore, if you use cheap BBs you will void your warranty. High quality BBs are sold exclusively at airsoft specialty retailers and will minimize jamming, improve FPS, and improve firing accuracy. Beware low battery power. When your rifle battery is low, it’s easier for the gearbox to “lock up” which can lead to damaged internal components. To avoid this, keep your firearm appropriately charged and stop using the rifle when battery life is low. But also beware of over-changing. On the flip side, it is not wise to leave your battery charging overnight with a standard wall charger. This practice can lead to damaged battery cells. Charge for fixed periods of time using a hi-output “smart” charger, which will taper off the current when the battery is full. Be careful with upgrades. Upgrades should only be made by experts. Keep in mind that raising battery voltage will put more stress on your firearm as it increases will your Rate of Fire (ROF) as opposed to Feet per Second (FPS) or velocity. If you want to increase your FPS it makes more sense to upgrade your spring, but again, this will add more stress to the internals that have not been upgraded in proportion to the spring. In short, it’s best to consult with an expert when considering upgrades to your rifle. Care for your gun. You should always perform general maintenance before and after serious game play. The general maintenance should include unjamming and clearing the barrel of debris, as well as lubing the internal barrel, the hop up and magazine. Expert internal maintenance should be done every 4 to 6 months.
