Paintball, Sniper Pros, Hunting and Airsoft enthusiasts many times have gotten dressed in such a manner that they can camouflage with their surroundings. Camouflaging is necessary if the hunter wants to be successful in getting their prey. The hunters are required to have a sense of slyness and be able to merge with the surroundings successfully. Wearing camouflage is necessary, because it breaks the human silhouette and you can travel around completely ignored. Many hunters focus on camouflaging themselves all the time and forget about the importance of camouflaging their weapon.

And therefore, the result is that their rifle sticks out like an ugly thumb. And any animal will be able to notice you! Therefore a rifle camouflage is a very important activity and you can camouflage the rifle yourself. There are two ways of doing this. One, is simple, all you will need is some cans of spray paint.

The other way is much, much, much easier and less opportunity to damage your gun or rifle, and as opposed to spray paint…it is not PERMANENT! The other way to make your own rifle wrap with jute/burlap or synthetic thread some elastic and netting or purchasing rifle wraps, inexpensively off the internet.

When you camouflage a rifle, you would like to paint it with the colors that will merge with the surroundings. Camouflaging will also remove the shine from the metal pieces of the rifle, like the bolt, trigger and barrel. The first thing that you will be required to do is that to visit the home supplies store of your neighborhood and buy paints that will help you camouflage the weapon. The colors that you will require will be flat green, flat black, flat khaki, and flat brown. The flat paints will help you eliminate the shine and glare of the weapon.

In the first step prior to painting the weapon, you will have two options. You can disassemble the gun and paint it in parts or you can just paint it as a whole and mask of the segments that you do not wish to paint. If you choose the masking option then you can take blue paint tape from the store and mask off the sections barrel, bolt, scope glass and trigger etc.

After the gun is masked or disassembled you can start applying the first coat of the paint. This coat will be solid and will be applied on the whole rifle. The color will depend on the type of location you are going to use it. If in woodlands you can start the base color with green or if your location is a desert then the color would be a brown or khaki. Apply the coat and let the rifle to dry.

After the rifle is dry, go on and apply the second coat. There will be other decisions that you will have to take during this point. The color of the second coat will depend on the color of the plant life in that area. If it is grassland, then you can ‘stripe’ the gun with green color. If the area is woodlands, then you will have to ‘splotch’ the paint. Doing this will help you to accomplish your job of rifle camouflage. You can also make interesting plant patterns with the paint on your rifle. The patterns must be similar to the patterns in that area. You can easily have a pattern on the rifle, take a leaf from that region and keep it between the paint can and the gun. Start painting and you will have painted the outline of the leaf.

You will have to repeat the process till you color the whole rifle and make it look like the area. Avoid symmetry as it would show up in the area. The use of brown and black colors must be restricted to just accents. After the paint gets dry you can unmask the areas or reassemble the pieces of the rifle. You will be proud of the rifle camo job you have done.

New Desert Ghillie Suits

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Every avid hunter in the United States eagerly looks forward for the start of hunting season in the Fall. There are individuals who “enjoy” hunting, who are concerned with what rifle they have and whether they have hunting permits. The other type of hunter is the one who is steeped in experience, and knows the depth of planning and organizing equipment hunting requires. The more experienced hunter will know having equipment such as a ghillie suit is of great importance while out in the wilderness.

Any serious hunter should know that investing in a ghillie suit, pays its dividends many times over.  These suits are of huge significance as they provide the needed camouflage that allow hunters to stalk and hunt their prey. Difference is, without one many hunters tend to go home frustrated and empty handed.

While ghillie suits serve as an extremely useful tool, its understandable why some individuals prefer not to use them.  The number one reason why some prefer to go without a ghillie suit, is the standard green and brown pattern. For obvious reasons, this pattern does not blend in with every environment, as not every individual hunts or plays in environments with suitable foliage. The other reason is that when wearing a ghillie suit, it tends to get pretty hot, pretty quickly.  Many of these concerns have been addressed by ghillie suit manufacturers. Today, you can get a ghillie suit to fit the environment you intend to use it for. Additionally, ghillie suits today are made of lighter and synthetic materials that allow the suits to breath and are therefore much cooler even in the heat of a battle.

While in the past, ghillie suits were manufactured in standard green and brown patterns, today you can get ghillie suits in woodland, mossy, leafy green, and even desert. The desert pattern is especially useful for individuals who play or hunt in areas with tall grasses and open fields, as opposed to trees and greenery forests. Ghillie suits are worn by the average hunter to a highly skilled sniper in the military. With military operations expansive all of the world, and especially in the middle east – desert ghillie suits needed to be cool when worn. For this reason they are extremely light weight, which allows the wearer to remain cool when wearing it. This type of suit has also been popular with paintball enthusiasts – as players are constantly moving and need something that can move with them. Desert Ghillie Suits let them do that.

As paintball is a physically demanding activity (at least for the good players), traditional ghillie suits, which are known to be made with heavy materials would not have allowed players to actively participate; as they were difficult to wear, move around with and fear of overheating. Desert suits being used by professionals in hot environments, needed to be light weight and cool. Whether you are a sniper or an amazing paintball player, desert ghillie suits provide the wearer with needed concealment, while being comfortable and maneuverable.

Desert ghillie suits, have evolved in their own right. Previously made in simple light browns and tans, today you can find high quality suits made with various hues of desert to allow hunters and players to better blend in with their environment.

The Types Of Airsoft Guns

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

The gun itself is obviously the most important tool in airsoft. It can make or break your performance and enjoyment. If you are serious about airsoft then make sure that you get a good gun. Lower priced guns can be fun for a while but most likely they will not last for more than a couple of months and before you know it you will have to buy a new gun if you want to keep playing. Having a quality gun will also make you more competitive. A low quality gun which frequently jams and does not shoot straight is not much fun in the heat of battle. You will spend more time messing with the gun than actually accomplishing your objectives. It is much better to have a mid to top tier gun and spend your time accomplishing your teams objectives and dominating your opponents. To top if off, a top of the line airsoft gun is much better for showing off to your friends than a cheap plastic one.

Since the gun is an important part of the game it is good to know about the different types of airsoft guns. There are three main categories of airsoft guns: spring, electric, and gas.

Spring guns are often the least expensive, and in some cases the most reliable. A quality spring airsoft gun will practically last forever if you don’t abuse it. This is because there are few moving parts within the gun and there is not much which can go wrong. The drawback of spring guns is that they need to be manually cocked before each shot is fired. This makes them good starter guns, but if playing against someone with an automatic AEG then you will have a big disadvantage because they will be able to pump out bbs 100 times faster than you. In serious airsoft battles the only time you really see spring guns used is for sniping. Snipers do not rely on a high rate of fire but instead use tactics, cover, concealment, and marksmanship to take down their prey.

Gas powered airsoft guns use either green gas or CO2 as propulsion. In other words, the gas is already pressurized. This makes them easy to use and very realistic. They can fire in semi auto mode, and sometimes even in full auto. The drawback is that once you’re out of gas then the gun is basically useless until you buy more. CO2 is easy to find but Green Gas usually has to purchased online or at a specialty store. There are special adapters which allow propane to be used instead of Green Gas.

The third type of airsoft gun is electric. For rifles this is the most popular type of gun. They are battery powered. The battery turns an electric motor which in turn powers a pistol which compresses air, which is used to propel the Bbs. This makes them very powerful because they can shoot in full auto mode for as long as the trigger is pulled back. Many AEGs also come with a high capacity magazine which can hold 300 rounds or more. The batteries are almost always rechargeable so once they are out all you have to do is put them on a charger for a few hours and then you’re ready to play again. In matches and events which last for a day or more it is a good idea to have a spare battery or two to use while the other is charging.

The author of this article is an expert on airsoft guns. He also runs several successful airsoft gun websites.

Is Rifle Camo Essential?

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

Hunting and activities such as paintball and airsoft often have individuals dress up in camouflage. In order to be successful in hunting and on the field, participants need to have a sense of stealth, and be able to blend into their environment. Hunters understand that you wear camouflage to break down the human silhouette so you go unnoticed. Unfortunately, while many focus all their time on this, they forget about concealing their weapons – which is often the first thing an opponent or your prey notices. When out on the field or in the woods, do not forget to conceal every part of your body and equipment.

Hunters and outdoor enthusiasts often opt to use ghillie suits to conceal themselves, and are an excellent tool for camouflage. Yet they are stunned when they are constantly caught. What tips off their presence is usually the fact that their rifle was not camouflaged.

If you did not know already, most animals are color blind. Instead, they utilize their smell and eyesight senses to avoid their predators and ultimately their death. Hunters know this, which why seasoned individuals know they need to mask their smell, but that’s where most people’s efforts stop. Despite the fact that most animals are color blind, they can still see patterns and shapes. Before I said you need ghillie suits so you can break down your silhouette, otherwise animals can tell the difference between natural free-forming shapes like bushes and trees versus rigid lines that define the human body. While ghillie suits will allow a hunter to blend into their environment where animals will only see a continuation of natural shapes, animals will notice a rifle sticking out and be startled. An uncamouflaged rifle will bring attention to you and will result in the animal fleeing. A rifle rag, or rifle wrap allows you to avoid this.

Covering your rifle with camo, will allow you to fit in with your environment.  There are various ways to conceal your rifle. Many companies manufacture different types of Rifle Camo such as Rifle Wraps, Rifle Rag Kits, and you can even purchase a Paintball Tank & Loader Ghillie Cover for paintball enthusiasts. Rifle camo come in various patterns that include woodland, mossy oak, desert, and leafy green – to best accompany your ghillie suit. You can also buy rifle camo that is lighter, ones that are made with synthetic materials, like GhillieGear.com’s Rifle Wrap Synthetic Thread.
