So what is airsoft? Airsoft, which is a recreational sport, is played by a variety of people for a few different reasons. Airsoft guns are replicated after firearms, but instead of shooting ammunition, airsoft guns shoot small lightweight plastic pellets called BBs.
In the 1970s, airsoft created in Japan to be a recreational sport, but now a days it has some other uses. The first airsoft guns designed were spring powered and shot several sizes of rubber, aluminum or plastic BBs, but eventually it became a standard to use 6mm and 8mm plastic BBs. Also, the spring airsoft guns eventually evolved into electric guns. Because of the all the new manufacturers of airsoft guns in Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, airsoft guns began to be exported to North America.
People play airsoft for a few different reasons. Some of the people that play airsoft are former/current military personnel and police officers. There are airsoft players that are adults and those that are very young. Also, people commonly play because they have a legitimate interest in military history, and some because they are engulfed in police tactics. But, the main reason why everybody plays is because airsoft is extremely fun.
There are a ton of airsoft guns available. You can chose by type, by what powers them, and by looks. Gas, a spring, or electricity are what airsoft guns are powered by; electricity is the most popular. Electric airsoft guns are usually referred to as AEGs (Automatic Electric Guns), and are battery operated. The most popular airsoft AEG is the M4, but other popular types of AEGs include the MP5, AK-47, M14, G36, and scar. There are also many airsoft sniper rifles and airsoft pistols available on the market. Prices for airsoft guns range from only a few dollars to over a thousand dollars if your looking for a Systema or custom airsoft gun.

Airsoft guns have many uses and people use them differently. To buy the right gun you first have to know what you will be using it for. Here are some common uses.
- Plinking (just shooting at cans and targets)
- Airsoft Wars (backyard shootouts with friends… and enemies)
- Joining a team (Joining an Airsoft team to compete against other teams)
Plinking
If you’re going to use it for plinking, you should get a spring pistol. They are very cheap and don’t need any maintenance. If you want to get a pistol, just go into your Google searchbar right now and search airsoft spring pistol. Find an airsoft pistol that looks cool to you and buy it. With a simple pistol for plinking, you don’t need to worry about price or speed.
Backyard Wars
If you are going to be using your airsoft gun for backyard wars, you should buy either an automatic electric gun(aeg) or a spring shotgun. Shotguns are great because for about forty dollars you can buy a powerful gun that can pump out bbs at an incredible rate of fire(as fast as you can pump the gun once and fire). Great inexpensive guns and perfect for small skirmishes. If you want something with a higher rate of fire than the shotgun, get an AEG. AEGs are powerful airsoft guns with RPMs (rounds per minute) close to if not the rpm of real assault rifles. They allow you to do anything in the backyard battle, from sniping to laying down suppressing fire. The downside of AEGs is that since they are fully automatic and more powerful than spring guns, they cost more and you will need to purchase more bbs because you will use them up very fast. Prices range anywhere from 70- 400 dollars. There is an alternative if you don’t want to spend that much…LPEGs. LPEG stands for low- powered or low-priced electric gun. These guns offer the rate of fire of an AEG for less. Even though they can’t put out as much FPS(feet per second) as AEGs they can still act as effective weapons.
Joining an Airsoft Team
If you’re thinking of joining an airsoft team, be warned that you will need to spend a lot of money not only on your gun but on gear as well. If you’re going to be on a team, you will need to invest some money in a quality gun. First, decide if you’re going to be a sniper, rifleman, support gunner, or grenadier. If you choose to be a sniper, you will need to purchase a quality sniper rifle with at least 400 FPS. Remember to purchase optics as well so you can hit your targets from distances. If you want to be a rifleman, purchase a quality AEG with a high-capacity magazine. If you want to be a support gunner, you have two options… either buy an AEG and get a box drum magazine(holds a lot of bbs) or purchase a machine gun. I would recommend getting an AEG with a box magazine because it is cheaper. If you want to be a grenadier, purchase an AEG as well as a g

One of the most overlooked parts of airsoft is choosing the correct BB weight. The tragedy of new airsofter players is when they spend hours picking out that shiny $300 AEG, only to load it with cheap.12g BBs and break the gun! Oh, and not to mention, you probably voided your warranty as well!
Although there are various weights for BBs, the four most common types you will see are.12g,.2g,.25g, and.3g. A few things you should note: the lighter the BB, the higher your velocity or FPS. The heavier the BB, the more accurate and less affected it is by wind resistance. This means your BB will actually travel further than a lighter BB, even though the lighter BB will have a higher velocity. The general rule is to shoot the heaviest BB your gun works with.
.12g BBs:
These BBs work well in spring guns or low powered electric guns. NEVER use these bullets in high quality electric guns, as they may jam and destroy the internals! Many manufacturers will consider your gun void if you shoot.12g BBs! One problem with the.12g BBs is that many horrible generic brands are offered at big box stores, and probably shouldn’t ever be used! Make sure they are seamless and precision ground BBs.
.2g BBs:
This is the most common and acceptable weight for airsoft guns. They can be used for almost any gun except very cheap pistols and low powered electric guns. However, they are not suggested for higher end sniper rifles. If you are new to the game, or just aren’t sure which weight to get, this is the one for you!
.25g BBs:
These are heavier grade BBs and should generally not be used in spring guns unless they are sniper rifles. This is often the choice of more experienced airsoft players, as they provide the best accuracy and travel the furthest.
.3g BBs:
These BBs are primarily meant for sniper rifles. They will provide the highest accuracy and distance, and will also pack quite a punch. It is possible to use these BBs in a high upgraded AEG, but otherwise you will be disappointed due to the low FPS.
The other weights you will find are basically just a mix of what I’ve written above, so a.23g BB will trade a bit of accuracy for a higher velocity. You will also find ultra-heavy.36-.43g BBs that are meant for highly upgraded sniper rifles.
Eddie Woo writes for Airsoft Guns Now, the #1 choice for all beginner and expert enthusiasts alike. Your gun deserves only the best airsoft BBs. Buy from our wide selection today!

As the sport of Airsoft continues its surge in worldwide popularity, the number of Airsoft teams and clubs continue to climb as well. These dedicated groups gather as weekend warriors at outdoor venues to participate in sophisticated war games. Dressed in military like fatigues, and armed with replica Airsoft guns, these teams engage in simulated military battles commonly referred to as the Mil-Sim (military simulation).
Of all the role players one can choose to be in these weekend battles, perhaps the most popular of all is the “Sniper”. The Airsoft Sniper is often referred to as the Lone Wolf or Rouge of Airsoft. This is the gamer that wants to place himself in the perfect hidden location in order to eliminate the opposing players in a deadly ambush. Although a popular identity among Airsoft warriors, few players have mastered the skill of becoming a feared and effective “Super Sniper”.
The first step in becoming a successful Super Sniper begins with having the right equipment! This begins by choosing the Sniper’s most important accessory-the sniper rifle. The goal of the Sniper is to be able to shoot the enemy from long distances, therefore his rifle does not need to be fully automatic or even semi-automatic. A well built spring-action rifle is usually the choice. The spring sniper rifle must be one of the more powerful models in order to shoot from long distances with great accuracy. It is also important to keep in mind that the most powerful weapon the Sniper has is his stealth or the ability to stay hidden. The spring action sniper rifles are much quieter than the electric automatic rifles.
One of the most recommended spring sniper rifles is the Super 9 Bolt Action Airsoft sniper rifle. This great Airsoft gun is made by UHC, which is widely recognized as one of the premier manufacturers of spring guns.
Perhaps the next most important piece of equipment for the secretive Super Sniper is his riflescope. The ability to see long distances with accuracy is critical to his success. Often the original equipment scope does not fulfill this requirement and an upgrade is needed. A minimum 4×32 power scope is the desired measure.
The successful Sniper has also mastered the art of military camouflage. Without proper clothing the Sniper is doomed to failure. It is essential for him to be undetected by the opposing teams. Investing in a “ghillie” or camouflage suit is critical to maximum concealment from enemy patrols and other snipers. This suit is made from a central binding layer and loose strips of material designed to break up the shape of the human body. Super Snipers typically customize their suits by adding plant-matter or rolling in the dirt or mud in order to deaden color contrasts. With the potential for wearing this suit a long time during battles, comfort is a premium.
One of the great mistakes of the amateur sniper is running out of ammunition. As simple as this may seem, this is a common mishap due to the underestimated length of many Airsoft skirmishes. Many a sniper meets his demise as he emerges prematurely from his secret hideout at the most inopportune time in order to retrieve more pellets. You will always find the wise Super Sniper well stocked with plenty of ammo!
Understanding the role and choosing the right equipment will help the Airsoft warrior to be well on his way to becoming a Super Sniper.

Do you return home in the evening, slump into an easy chair, pour yourself a stiff one and watch TV all night? If so, you may have the feeling that there’s something missing in your life and you may well be right. If you want to bring a sense of challenge and touch of excitement back into your life in a way that’s safe and inexpensive, the answer is airsoft guns. Here’s your complete guide to these wonderful items.
Airsofts are life-size replicas of real firearms including revolvers, pistols, snipers and rifles. Generally made of plastic, or plastic and metal, and you can also get metal airsoft guns. They fire small plastic pellets or BBs. Guns come in three types according to the type of firing mechanism – spring, gas and electricity.
Spring airsoft guns are the most basic and use a mechanical system. You need to cock them before firing just as you would with a real shotgun or bolt action rifle. Cocking the gun compresses a spring which is attached to a piston. Then when you pull a trigger, the piston shoots forward compressing the air in the cylinder firing the pellet. Because of the mechanism, they’re single shot weapons. Spring operated models are perfect for entry level users looking for cheap airsoft guns to test the waters.
Gas fired guns are more advanced. They use gas, usually green gas or carbon dioxide, to fire the pellets. The gas comes in canisters which load into the bottom of the magazine. Gas airsoft guns come in blowback and non-blowback types. The former are more functional as after firing, the gas blows back to reset the mechanism ready for the next shot. This feature also makes the airsoft feel more like a real gun.
The main advantage they offer over spring guns is the ability for rapid fire which is useful in the tumultuous environment of airsoft games. You can fire your gas gun as quickly as you can pull the trigger as the reloading mechanism is very efficient. In fact, they work in a way that’s very similar to real firearms.
Electric powered guns are now the most commonly used. Electric airsoft guns use electrical power from a battery to work a gear and piston system. Operation is usually semi and sometimes fully automatic. The latter are known as AEG (automatic electric gun) airsoft guns.
Now you know all about the different types of guns, let’s look at how you can use them.
The simplest way and the best way to start off is simply target practice. When you’re adept with your airsoft gun, it’s time to start thinking about joining in an airsoft game or skirmish. These are organized events that allow you to become a marine or FBI agent for an hour or a day, and use your skills to achieve an objective. It could be hostage rescue or the re-enactment of a historic battle.
Participating in an airsoft game permits you to live out a fantasy and escape from your daily routine for a while. It also allows you to test your mettle and weapons skills against your peers.
Providing a few simple rules and guidelines are followed, airsoft guns are extremely safe. Essentially you just need to use them in the right environment – firing range or organized game field, clean and maintain them regularly, and always wear protective gear.
Another great thing is that using these guns is very inexpensive. Other than buying new pellets, your expenses are minimal. With spring airsoft rifles, you don’t need a propellant as everything works manually. For gas guns you’ll need to top up you gas canisters every so often. Likewise with electric guns, you just have to charge them regularly and replace the batteries every now and again. Other expenses include paying fees at the firing range and for the airsoft games.
Airsoft guns can bring a world of pleasure and satisfaction into your life so check them out today. You can browse the web sites of online vendors and view the wide range available. Placing your order is a snap and your new firearm will be delivered in a few days. Remember they’re illegal in a few states and you have to be over 21 to buy one.

The gun itself is obviously the most important tool in airsoft. It can make or break your performance and enjoyment. If you are serious about airsoft then make sure that you get a good gun. Lower priced guns can be fun for a while but most likely they will not last for more than a couple of months and before you know it you will have to buy a new gun if you want to keep playing. Having a quality gun will also make you more competitive. A low quality gun which frequently jams and does not shoot straight is not much fun in the heat of battle. You will spend more time messing with the gun than actually accomplishing your objectives. It is much better to have a mid to top tier gun and spend your time accomplishing your teams objectives and dominating your opponents. To top if off, a top of the line airsoft gun is much better for showing off to your friends than a cheap plastic one.
Since the gun is an important part of the game it is good to know about the different types of airsoft guns. There are three main categories of airsoft guns: spring, electric, and gas.
Spring guns are often the least expensive, and in some cases the most reliable. A quality spring airsoft gun will practically last forever if you don’t abuse it. This is because there are few moving parts within the gun and there is not much which can go wrong. The drawback of spring guns is that they need to be manually cocked before each shot is fired. This makes them good starter guns, but if playing against someone with an automatic AEG then you will have a big disadvantage because they will be able to pump out bbs 100 times faster than you. In serious airsoft battles the only time you really see spring guns used is for sniping. Snipers do not rely on a high rate of fire but instead use tactics, cover, concealment, and marksmanship to take down their prey.
Gas powered airsoft guns use either green gas or CO2 as propulsion. In other words, the gas is already pressurized. This makes them easy to use and very realistic. They can fire in semi auto mode, and sometimes even in full auto. The drawback is that once you’re out of gas then the gun is basically useless until you buy more. CO2 is easy to find but Green Gas usually has to purchased online or at a specialty store. There are special adapters which allow propane to be used instead of Green Gas.
The third type of airsoft gun is electric. For rifles this is the most popular type of gun. They are battery powered. The battery turns an electric motor which in turn powers a pistol which compresses air, which is used to propel the Bbs. This makes them very powerful because they can shoot in full auto mode for as long as the trigger is pulled back. Many AEGs also come with a high capacity magazine which can hold 300 rounds or more. The batteries are almost always rechargeable so once they are out all you have to do is put them on a charger for a few hours and then you’re ready to play again. In matches and events which last for a day or more it is a good idea to have a spare battery or two to use while the other is charging.
